The Salon
The online gallery
High-quality exhibitions with original curation
on diverse topics from the history of art
Research, Curation and Design – Dr. Nava Seville Sadeh
The history of art is rich with countless works, many of which are displayed in museums worldwide, but are sometimes kept in basements and never exposed to the public. Furthermore, museum halls are so filled with artworks that it’s impossible to see them all on a single visit. Spending long hours or days at a museum isn’t feasible for everyone, and many find themselves rushing to “check off” pieces, instead of truly enjoying them. In addition, alongside famous “names”, museums also exhibit works by thousands of forgotten artists whose names have been lost to history for various reasons.
“The Salon” is an online gallery designed to showcase exhibitions on a variety of art history topics, as well as featuring many different artists, with a focus on unique subjects and original curation. The underlying principle of this curation is that viewing a piece in a specific context will illuminate it in a special light and draw attention to it in a way that is currently lacking. The exhibitions focus on unique themes and are curated with quality and precision. The works are ‘borrowed’ virtually from museums and placed in a unique and aesthetic way within spaces specially designed for the exhibition, regardless of their permanent museum placement. The works are displayed in the chosen space and close-up. Each piece is researched in depth and is accompanied by an interpretive text, all its catalog details, and, of course, credit to the rights holders. All texts are available in three languages—Hebrew, English, and French—to allow access to a wide audience. Viewing the exhibition allows for contemplation through reading and deep engagement but also offers the option of viewing for pleasure alone, leaving the reading and deeper engagement for another time.
On a personal note, I will say that “The Salon” is a flagship project for me, one that I have been preparing for many years. With this project, I am combining several of my loves: first, of course, art research—as a prolific researcher, over many years I have published dozens of research articles and three books.; second, as a curator, I have intentionally presented dozens of exhibitions that have included artists from a wide range of artistic styles and movements; and third, my love for aesthetics and design, which I see as an inseparable part of curating an exhibition.
I invite you to enjoy a high-quality aesthetic and conceptual experience!
